Week 1 - Round Up from Around the League

The season has started and the Conferences are under way.

The Season Opener saw Spartans travel to Bears, and the Bears jumped out to a 25-8 lead after Q1 and lead by 28 at the half. Bears proved too strong for the Spartans and got the win 73-37. Coach Wyatt was chuffed with a dominant win to open the season and how the guys clicked and shot the ball well after 2 years off!

The second fixture was a closer fought affair as the Tigers travelled to Weymouth on Tuesday. After 1, the Bandits had a slim 1pt lead, 14-13, which they had stretched to 29-25 by the half. Midway through the 3rd, Weymouth had a little run to go up 11, by the end of 3, but the Tigers were not going away, and fought back to 47-49 to set up a great finish. Tigers' D.Short nailed a 3, but Weymouth K.Tissera made 1 from 2 from the line before Olly Turner closed the game with an And-1. It finished 54-50 Bandits. Olly Turner added "Tigers made a great game of it, but we came away with the win, so happy with that. Got a lot to work on in training and well done to the team".

Wednesday saw Oaks host Classics. The Oaks jumped to a commanding lead and were leading 59-31 before the game was called off due to safety concerns. Discussions between players and referees found the court had, for an unknown reason, become increasingly slippery and unplayable. With only 8 mins of Q4 to play and Oaks having a dominant lead, the Teams and Committee agreed the score should stand. Also a great touch as Oaks ran a Free Throw contest at half time, with one lucky lady walking away with a supporters Tee!

Thursday saw the Storm2 travel to the Seahawks. After Q1 it was a narrow 19-15 lead for Storm, but the rest of the game they showed their experience over the young Seahawks and stretched away to take the win 90-50. However for a first ever match for most of the Seahawk line up, Coach Wood was "proud of the boys mentality and how they played but we just couldn't cope with the size of Readhead underneath and the Storm skill and experience".

Week 2:

Evolution host Blazers on Monday, as Storm travel to BG Suns. Friday has Storm2 and Spartans face off.
