So after a summer of ballin' then waitin' the DBA 2019/20 season kicked off!
With 2 separate divisions, teams will face each other 3 times over the year to decide who comes out on top. Games will generally be more competitive and more fun, and the leagues outcomes will be closer than ever.
First up, Seahawks hosted the new BG Suns (Div2) and the Seahawks jumped out to an early lead, with the Suns not finding their range early on. Suns team rep. Henry Atkinson said "they were disappointed in their performance, and highlighted things they can work on, but the Seahawks deserved the win". Seahawks 72 - 44 Suns.
The second game scheduled that day, Raiders vs Blackhawks had to be postponed due to a misunderstanding with the college having a teacher/parent booking in the hall.
The second week Razors host the Storm, and the Storm were too strong, finding the net 5 times from range in the first half, to go 41-19 up at the half. Razors stemmed the flow a little in the 2nd half but Storm came out on top 74-46.
Tigers then hosted the Bandits in a reply of the summer final, but the Bandits lacking their big scoring duo, the Tigers took control 25-16 after 10 mins and then never let up. S.Guidici grabbed MVP for the game and the Tigers finished 99-64 winners.
Donkeys hosted the Blackhawks on Tuesday, and with a new line up, including former Donkeys, the Blackhawks came out firing whilst the home team struggled to get going. It was 39-19 at the half. But the Donkeys refused to roll over, and a great 3rd from Niklas and Leonard saw them cut into the lead, and it was doing to just 4 with 2 mins to play. But a settling timeout for the Blackhawks saw them go back to basics and close out the game 74-67.
New additions Lithuanian Oaks got off to a flyer, coming out on top of Team Dorset Spartans, in their opener. It was 30-22 at the half, and finished 63-53 to the Oaks, but they nominated Ollie Thorneycroft, from the Spartans as MVP, with 8 points, including one 3.
Evolution travelled to windy Weymouth on Thursday, to face the new Raiders team. And without their big scorer from last season the Evolution admitted they had to find a new approach this year. But they quickly jumped out to a 37-21 lead at the half. The Raiders started to find their flow in the 2nd half but C.Sorrell was firing and added 42 points to his tally!! It finished 81-62 to Evolution.
Suns hosted BU Performace on the Friday night, and the Suns took the first quarter 8-7, but BU came back and had a 4 point lead by the half. They had stretched it to 11pts by the end of 3, and then secured the win on the road, 55-40 at the end of time.
Finally the Sunday fixture saw the Blackhawks host the Seahawks, with both teams already being 1-0 it was going to be a game for the early top of the league spot. It was neck and neck through the first half, with Blackhawks going in 5pts up, 33-28. But the second was all Blackhawks as they ran away winners, 73-49. Big Zeke Dunford named MVP with 17pts and almost unstoppable underneath.
Next week the pick of the fixtures would be Storm going against Oaks, both 1-0, and Bandits and Razors trying to bounce back after losses in week 1. In Div 2 Suns host the Raiders, both trying to get a tally in their W column.
