It was a great start to the DBA Summer League '19 as 8 of the 9 teams opened their accounts in Week 1.
First up, Bridport Evolution vs. Dorset Storm on Monday, and with some great shooting from both teams, it started fast... Storm up 29-27 after 1. In the second, match MVP, H Batson found his range, adding 16 points in the quarter, with 4 of his 7 triples on the night. Evolution mounted a comeback in the 3rd, with Craig Sorell adding 9 in his tally, but the Storm closed it out in 4 to finish 95-81 up. [H.Batson 32pts, C. Sorrell 27pts, J Robertshaw 18pts]
Spartans hosted Classics on Tuesday night, and a close 1st 10 saw teams tied at 14-14. But when J. Buden hit the go-ahead 3 midway through the second the Spartans never looked back and pulled away 31-23 at the half then rounded it off with a 18-4 final quarter to end it 64-38. [J. Buden 14]
Lions / Bandits was always going to be great match and it did not disappoint. Although the Bandits jumped to a 25-10 lead after 1 (with 12pts for C. Alexander), with Coach Tishaw saying they could not buy a rebound early on, the Lions re-grouped and responded in the third quarter. With A.Romero leading the scoring the Lions had clawed it back to just a 9 point deficit with 10 to play, 61-52 Bandits. C. Weaver kept finding the net down the stretch, grabbing 8 of his 19 points to see out the game. 78-66 Bandits. [C. Alexander 25, A. Romero 20, C.Weaver 19, A.Riccobene 18]
The final fixture of the week saw the strong Tigers team blow out the Donkeys. 27-4 after the first and there was no way back for the Donkeys who are continually looking to boost their roster. Player/Coach Luca Dronyk was firing and had 25pts on the night, including 5 from distance. Paul Oakley added 15 for his Donkeys. It finished 94-44 to the Tigers [L.Dronyk 25,T.
